A three-years in-the-making whole-house remodel with trendy, well-appointed finishes and pond/wooded views.
When you walk into this home, the hardest thing to do is to drag your eyes away from the view with surprising privacy and spectacular vistas of a large pond and surrounding woods. The owners wanted a resort style home that maximizes the unique property and has a grand entrance. Its builder, Merlin Hamm, designed the home as a showcaseParade Home featuring the drama of 10-foot ceilings and wonderful natural light but the home’s interior configuration had become obsolete from its 1993 lifestyle. The owners entertain a lot and with that came the need not only for an open floor plan but also a large—and luxury—kitchen.
Walls that had separated the living room from the dining and kitchen needed to be opened-up as it was important to have entertaining spaces that complement the kitchen. The previous kitchen was small and cozy but disconnected from the other rooms. To create a resort-style feel, the home was elevated with timeless architecture and modern conveniences synonymous with contractor Matt Boileau’s design and high-end finished product.
Due to the generous size of the living areas and the tall ceiling heights, Boileau was able to create a large open plan living with light filled spaces along the expansive views of the pond. The spaces needed to encapsulate the large kitchen and function as the entertaining hub of today’s modern lifestyle.
Incorporated into the design are touches of warm glamorous features including wall coverings, specialized cabinetry, designer lighting, commercial-grade appliances and a beautiful, green-colored cabinetry which softens the copper accents. Light wall tones of greyed white add contrast to the space with white-alabaster trim encasing the country-retreat-like views through Anderson windows of lasting quality.
The fully integrated kitchen incorporates stunning natural soap-stone countertops, classic and functional subway tile backsplash wall, and Fisher & Paykel and FrigidaireProfessional Line appliances. A stunning China-display hutch lights up and reflects the amazing views in its tall glass-cabinets. A giant eat-in island is also accompanied by a nook featuring a built-in bench wrapped in the corner beneath windows and a perfect spot for watching all the action below.
Centering the living area is a stunning fireplace with a 100-year hand-hewn barn beam and copper surround to add the feeling of opulence and warmth. Wide-plank white oak flooring through the main living areas reflect the traditional aesthetic and add a soft, neutral palette to the interior scheme. The flooring was laid-in place with a deep penetrating oil finish, instead of polyurethane, which is better for the earth and creates a unique satin look.
An open staircase leads down to an impressive walk-out lower level filled with natural light. This space was also updated and reimagined adding an additional bedroom and exercise room that are important to today’s buyer. The large family room with a shiplap detailed fireplace complements the main-level finishes. There is also an extra recreation space, two bedrooms and a bath. In addition, the lower level has ample storage space. If a superbly constructed home with serene views, privacy, and convenience near urban amenities appeal to you, this home is situated to enhance every beautiful time of the year.
